Trip to Canberra

Corinna and I took a weekend trip to Canberra and we had fun!

We had a great time, and were quite pleasantly surprised at what Canberra had to offer.  Coming from Sydney it was quite hard to imagine how it could be topped, but this is the capital of Australia after all.  What really struck us was how 'easy going', quiet and friendly it was.

We did the War Museum and Memorial which really was very moving indeed, if only we had more time......about 12 hours or so, we could not have done it justice!  There was so much to see.  By the time we had completed the first world war and moved onto the second, we were reaching input overload.  The facts were put across in a truly inspiring and imaginative way.  If you go to Canberra, this is a must see.

We also did Canberra Zoo and Aquarium.  I think our timing was a bit off(mid to late afternoon), as most animals were fast asleep and hiding in the shade.  Sydney Aquarium is hard to beat.....

Our other find for the weekend was a fantastic eatery called "Benchmark".  The guys there all made us feel so welcome, the wine list is really adventurous, the food definately created lively debate!  We had both the tapas and the tasting menu, both of which were very good.  If you are in Canberra, look them up, say Jeremy sent you!

What a fantastic time we had. Canberra really was quite a surprise! A real shock when you live in Sydney.

I would highly recommend dining at Benchmark - Check out the review at dG's here http://www.bestrestaurants.com...nebar.aspx if you visit and bump into Tasso or Amie, tell them we sent you!
